About the Inventor of the Rapid Adjust Seatpost

Austin Walsh, chief inventor of the Rapid Adjust Seatpost, has enjoyed years of Freestyle BMX riding but turned to Mountain Biking for even greater challenges. As a member of a fiercely competitive BMX team In Tokyo, Austin learned many fun tricks like mid-air 360’s and riding backwards. Back in the States, he switched over to mountain biking for the endless challenge of varying terrain. From the mountains of New Hampshire to the adrenalin rushing drops of Moab, Austin is constantly seeking to conquer any twist and turn and venture down any cliff he can find.

Having come from a BMX background, Austin appreciated the need to keep the seat down for total control through gnarly descents. However, always having to stop at the bottom of hills, just before going up the next hill to put up his seat, caused a significant loss of valuable momentum. That was when the idea came to him to invent a seatpost that would allow the rider to instantly and securely change the seat height, at full range from fully lowered to fully raised, while “on the fly”. He knew there were already adjustable seatposts out on the market, but none of them provided the full range of flexibility and immeasurable control he wanted and would soon invent.

After obtaining the patent for his preliminary seatpost design in March 2002, Austin developed a partnership with ProDev, Inc. to help him bring his idea to market. After years of revisions and 1,000’s of miles and countless hours of durability testing, the collaborative efforts of Austin and ProDev resulted in the Rapid Adjust Seatpost…The Ultimate Mountain Bike Seatpost.
